"Let's Ensure 100% Utilisation of Fly Ash"
Recently, the Centre government drafted the new fly ash utilisation rule for Thermal Power Plants(TPPs), bringing them to mandatory utilise 100% of fly ash within three to five years. Existing provisions allow TPPs to fully utilise fly ash in a three-year cycle in a staggered manner.
What does that mean?
- Comply or Get Penalised.
It also introduced fines of Rs 1,000 on non-compliant plants under the ‘polluter pays principle’, taking into account utilisation targets from 01 April 2022.
The 'polluter pays' principle is the commonly accepted practice that those who produce pollution should bear the costs of managing it to prevent damage to human health or the environment.
Under this, the collected fines will be deposited in the designated account of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) & shall be used towards the safe disposal of the unutilised ash.
Unutilised accumulated ash (legacy ash) where TPPs will have to utilise it within 10 years from the date of publication of final notification in a staggered manner. If not complied, a fine of Rs 1000 per tonne will be imposed on the remaining unutilised quantity which has not been fined earlier.
Mission Energy Foundation suggested several policies and regulations—ranging from tighter air pollution standards and efficient technology to developing policy framework for managing waste products—to improve the sector. The results of Mission Energy Foundation’s study and its recommendations spurred a wide public debate and, over the last few years, the government announced a series of draft regulations and policies to help improve the sector’s performance. Both coal-based electricity and cement are crucial inputs to economic growth; their substitutability is limited due to various factors, discussions regarding which are beyond the scope of this article are being discussed at various forums of Mission Energy Foundation.
The 11th edition FLY ASH UTILISATION 2022; is intended to provide a forum to meet and discuss the science and applications for coal ash and to transfer knowledge and ideas that will benefit their innovative utilization, processing, handling, storage, transportation and disposal.
Scenarios of ash generation and utilisation shall be presented by the industry experts alongside key technical, regulatory, pricing, logistical, and behavioural issues that shall be addressed to reach complete fly ash utilisation during the two days of value packed technical sessions at FLY ASH UTILISATION 2022.
FLY ASH UTILISATION 2022 - this year is a Two Day Residential Conference scheduled on 22 - 23 April 2022 at Country Inn & Suites - GOA; which is expected to again attract participants worldwide focusing on the business, logistics and technical challenges and opportunities in the coal combustion by-products sector. The two day of 360 degree technical discussions will be packed with multiple networking opportunities among regional and international guests.
Religiously & dedicateldy have given 13 years to the nation with 10 events on fly ash utilisaion creating forums of discussion; exchange of ideas; sharing practical experiences; govt. advocacies and networking opportunities to professionals and businesses worldwide.
Over the years Mission Energy Foundation have honoured hundreds of innovative developments and solutions for excellence and sustainability among the utilities, small or large, who have demonstrated their efforts and winning Fly Ash Utilisation Awards
